Izso Glickstein

Russian–American cantor (1889–1947)

Izso Glickstein was a Russian-American cantor who made significant contributions to the field of music. Born in 1889, he hailed from a long line of cantors, being a fourth-generation descendant of distinguished cantorial tradition. His family roots were in Russia, but he later immigrated to the United States, marking a new chapter in his life and career.

Glickstein's journey to the United States began on May 4, 1923, when he arrived at Ellis Island, New Jersey. He settled into his new life and eventually became a naturalized citizen on June 7, 1928. As a cantor, Glickstein's work was deeply rooted in his cultural and religious heritage. He passed away in 1947, leaving behind a legacy that reflected his dedication to his craft and his community. Through his music, Glickstein continued the traditions of his family while also embracing his new life in America.
