Platoon of the Wall
קבוצות התנדבות של בית"ר בארץ שעסקו בחקלאות והגנה
The Platoon of the Wall was a Jewish paramilitary unit operating in Mandatory Palestine during the late 1930s. Comprised of members from the Betar movement, the group focused on defending Jewish rights, particularly in relation to the Western Wall. Between 1937 and 1938, the Platoon of the Wall played a significant role in safeguarding Jewish worshipers and maintaining a Jewish presence in the Old City.
The unit's activities included escorting Jewish worshipers to and from the Western Wall, as well as guarding the area using concealed arms and clubs. Additionally, members of the Platoon of the Wall were responsible for blowing the shofar at the Western Wall, an act that was prohibited by the British authorities at the time. Through these actions, the Platoon of the Wall demonstrated its commitment to Jewish activism and its determination to protect and preserve Jewish religious and cultural practices in the face of adversity.
