Deanna Kamiel
Deanna Kamiel was a Canadian-born film director and producer who had a distinguished career in public broadcasting. She worked with prominent networks such as the CBC in Toronto and PBS in Minneapolis, creating documentary films and writing for public television. Kamiel's approach to documentary filmmaking was characterized by her use of live interviews with the subjects of her films, providing a personal and intimate perspective on their stories.
In addition to her work in film, Kamiel was a dedicated educator who taught at several institutions, including SUNY Purchase College and The New School in Manhattan, New York City. At The New School, she spent 26 years leading the Documentary Studies program and teaching media studies as an assistant professor.
