Michael A. Meyer is a renowned German-born American historian, specializing in modern Jewish history. Born in 1937, he has dedicated his career to the study and teaching of Jewish history, with a particular focus on the experiences of German Jews and the evolution of the Reform movement in Judaism. Over the course of his distinguished career, Meyer has taught at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio, for over five decades, earning the title of Adolph S. Ochs Emeritus Professor of Jewish History.

Meyer's contributions to the field of Jewish studies extend beyond his academic pursuits. He was a founding member of the Association for Jewish Studies and served as its president from 1978 to 1980. Additionally, he held the position of International President of the Leo Baeck Institute from 1992 to 2013.
