Paul Wittgenstein
מוזיקאי אמריקאי
Paul Wittgenstein was a renowned Austrian-American pianist, born in 1887, who made significant contributions to the world of music. His life took a dramatic turn during World War I, when he suffered the loss of his right arm, leading to its amputation. This pivotal event, however, did not hinder his passion for music, but rather spurred him to explore new possibilities.
Wittgenstein's determination and innovative spirit led him to commission new piano concerti that could be performed with the left hand alone. He developed groundbreaking techniques, combining pedal and hand movements to play complex chords that were previously thought to be impossible for a pianist with only five fingers. Through his remarkable adaptations and commissions, Wittgenstein expanded the possibilities of piano music, leaving a lasting legacy in the music world until his passing in 1961.
