Henric Streitman

עיתונאי, מתרגם ופוליטיקאי יהודי רומני

Henric Streitman was a multifaceted Romanian figure, active in the fields of journalism, translation, and politics, from 1873 to 1950. His career was marked by a significant shift in political allegiance, transitioning from socialist ideals to far-right views. Initially, Streitman was drawn to the concepts of natural selection and was instrumental in promoting these ideas. He also worked as a translator, focusing on Marxist and naturalist literature, which reflected his early interests in social commentary.

Throughout his life, Streitman was recognized for his sharp polemical stance and extensive knowledge, earning him respect in intellectual circles. However, his inconsistencies and alleged involvement in corrupt practices also sparked controversy. Despite facing financial struggles, Streitman remained committed to his pursuits, establishing several periodicals, albeit short-lived ones. From 1889 until his death, he actively participated in cultural and political debates, leaving a complex legacy that reflects both his intellectual contributions and personal contradictions.
