Isaak Mints
Soviet historian (1896–1991)
Isaak Mints was a prominent Soviet historian, born in 1896, who played a significant role in the field of history during the early and mid-twentieth century. His work and reputation earned him a leading position among Soviet historians of his time. Mints' expertise and contributions to the field of history were widely recognized, establishing him as a notable figure in Soviet academic circles.
Despite his esteemed position, Mints' career was affected by the Soviet campaign against the "rootless cosmopolitans" in 1949, which led to the loss of most of his academic positions. This campaign was a euphemism for the persecution of Jews, and Mints, being Jewish, was among those targeted. However, he eventually managed to regain favor by adhering to the Soviet "party line," ultimately becoming an example of an "ideal Soviet Jew." Mints passed away in 1991, leaving behind a legacy as a leading Soviet historian of his era.
