Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld
רבה הראשון של העדה החרדית בירושלים
Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld was a prominent rabbi who played a key role in the establishment of the Edah HaChareidis, a Haredi Jewish community in Jerusalem. Born in 1848, he would go on to become a leading figure in the community, co-founding the organization that would serve as a central authority for Haredi Jews in the city. His life's work was marked by a strong commitment to his faith and a dedication to the well-being of his community.
As a respected rabbi, Sonnenfeld was known for his uncompromising stance on certain issues, particularly his opposition to Zionism. This stance defined much of his later life and work, as he navigated the complexities of the British Mandate of Palestine. Through his leadership and guidance, the Edah HaChareidis flourished, providing a spiritual and communal hub for Haredi Jews in Jerusalem. Sonnenfeld passed away in 1932, leaving behind a legacy as a devoted rabbi and a champion of his community's values and traditions.
