Yosef Qafih

Yosef Qafih was a prominent Yemenite-Israeli rabbi and scholar who played a significant role in the Jewish community in Israel. Born in 1917, he became a leading authority on Jewish religious law, serving as a dayan of the Supreme Rabbinical Court in Israel. His expertise and leadership extended beyond the Yemenite Jewish community, as he was widely sought after by individuals from diverse backgrounds for his knowledge and guidance.

Rabbi Qafih's scholarly contributions are notable, particularly in the field of editing and translating the works of influential Jewish figures such as Maimonides and Saadia Gaon. His restoration of the Mishneh Torah from ancient Yemenite manuscripts, accompanied by a comprehensive commentary, is a testament to his dedication to preserving and interpreting Jewish texts. This commentary, which drew from nearly 300 additional commentators and included his own original insights, showcases his extensive knowledge and understanding of Jewish law and tradition.
